Left4Dead’s sequel, Left4Dead 2 is a zombie-killing first person shooter game. You will play as one of the 4 survivors, while working together fighting hordes of zombies, trying to get away from the zombie filled lands.
Left4Dead 2 has more specially infected zombies now, as well as more game modes than last time, which includes Realism and Scavenge. Scavenge is another type of versus gameplay, where you have an objective to complete within the time limit instead of reaching the safe house. There will be two teams, one on the survivors while the other on the infected, just like versus mode. As for Realism, it is actually a campaign gameplay, just that the gameplay will be made more realistic. An example would be that items will not be outlined when you point at them, which actually reveals it to be seen easily while in the dark environment.
I feel that the new modes are interesting and challenging. For the Scavenge mode, the time limit is quite short, which makes it very exciting as you will be fighting for time for a higher score in order to win the enemy team. Realism makes the already difficult gameplay of Left4Dead 2 even more challenging, as i would miss out on many items and be unable to find my team members since they look almost exactly like the zombies, and they will not be outlined as well when anything happens to them. The new type of zombies also makes the gameplay more chaotic and fun.
Another interesting feature which i like is the new range of weapons, which includes quite a number of melee weapons. I feel that having a range of melee weapons also makes the game more realistic as guns are not so easily available in real life, unlike things like a chainsaw or frying pan.
I feel that the computer players or artificial intelligence(AI) are lousier than the previous version in terms of some aspects, thus it is actually more fun if you play it with real people.
“However, if you’re tired of Left 4 Dead’s gameplay formula, the sequel, as good as it is, may not be enough to warrant a purchase. It’s a game that’s more about refinement and augmentation of existing features instead of offering something dramatically new.”
The above is written by Charles Onyett from IGN. Even though he have his point there, i still feel that this game is definitely worth your time playing if you like to kill zombies, not afraid of gore, and is not too timid.
